Chur is located in the heart of Graubünden, between Lake Lucerne and the Bernese Alps. The municipality covers an area of 7.7 km² and has a population of 14,819 (as of 1 January 2017).

The municipality is made up of five districts: Altdorf, Fieschertal, Kolbenz, Lötschberg and Riedern. The district of Altdorf is home to the village of Chur and the majority of the municipality’s population (almost 9,000 people). The district of Fieschertal includes the villages of Fläsch and Fulpmes as well as part of Oberalp.
