Plaza de la Raza Photo Gallery
Situated in the heart of East Los Angeles, in century-old Lincoln Park, Plaza de la Raza Cultural Center for the Arts and Education is the only multi-disciplinary cultural arts center for Latinos in Los Angeles Through its exhibition and education programs. Plaza offers venues for the Latino visual and pertoiming artist community, lhv once-threatened boathouse is now a gallerv. surrounded In the Administration Building. the 350-seat Willie Velasquez Outdoor Stage, the DanceBuilding, the 160-seat Margo Albert Theatre, the Ruben Salazar Art Building, and the Frank and Anne Lopez Music Building. The Sihool of Performing and Visual Arts (SPVA) is an after-school program established at Plaza in 1975 that has grown to provide 500 to 600 students each week with a full curriculum in four major disciplines; theater, dance, music and visual arts. The school offers a variety of courses, from entry -level classes (available free of charge to low income students) to conservatory-level workshops (conducted b\ master artists and performers). The Plazas permanent collection includes 28 paintings, prints and works on paper donated by the Anheuser Busch company; ceramic, wood and stone artifacts donated by Vincent Price from his personal collection; a collection of 180 silver gelatin prints donated by the photographer .Jose Galvez; and an extensive collection of Mexican folk art (1,940 items).
