Jackson City Hall

Jackson City Hall is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Jackson and the unofficial capitol of the Mississippi Delta region. The building was originally constructed in 1839 as a courthouse and jail, but has since been converted into a municipal government complex. Tours are available Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, and admission is free. Outside of regular tour hours, the building is open to the public for self-guided tours. Highlights include a 2,600-square-foot courtroom with original woodwork and design, an ornate governor’s office, a museum featuring relics from Jackson’s history, and a stately rotunda flanked by two statues of Jefferson Davis and Andrew Johnson.

The building is also home to the Mississippi Arts Council, which offers exhibits and performances throughout the year. The district surrounding City Hall is home to some of Jackson’s most popular tourist destinations, including the Capitol Building and the John Deere Museum. The district also contains numerous restaurants, shops, museums and galleries. Some notable places to visit in the area include Harry Hines Jr. Motorcycle Museum, Battle House Museum, Phil Hardberger State Park and American Cotton Exchange Museum.
