Small-Group National Mall Walking Tour in Washington DC
No visit to Washington, D.C. would be complete without a visit to the National Mall. And toady we’re going to walk from the capitol all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial. On our walk we’re visiting dozens of famous buildings, and monuments, and memorials. And our expert is sharing the significance about each one. Beautiful. So this is the Smithsonian Castle in back of us. It was designed by James Renwick, and erected in 1855 to house most of the major collections of the Smithsonian Institution when it was just getting started. Oh cool, there’s the Washington Monument.

The people who put up the Washington Monument wanted to demonstrate a sort of ideology of the man rather than draw our attention to the man himself. We are headed into the Lincoln Memorial. I feel so small. This space is huge! This is amazing. So cool, he’s larger than life. It’s just amazing to see this sculpture carved out of marble. It’s incredible. Every person who comes on this tour will walk away with a more solid understanding of how the National Mall fits into the larger fabric of the city of Washington, D.C. All sorts of old and new places that bring us back to understanding the sort of national American experience.
