Choosing A Destination and Melbourne Obtaining Information

If you’re going with an organized group, presumably the destination has already been chosen by others. When it’s up to you to decide where to go, this may take some time, and it occasionally requires a little research. Yet the process of trip-planning can also be rather fun and exciting.

Part II of this book offers a comprehensive listing of areas throughout the country where wilderness camping and backpacking are permitted. Select one or several locations which sound appealing and would be convenient for you to visit.

Your next step is to obtain a map or maps of the area, and also perhaps a guidebook, if available. Guidebooks and maps may be obtained from outdoor specialty stores, some sporting goods stores, bookstores, or by mail order. Current guidebooks for many states are listed in Part II under Camping Resources.
