Great Destinations for a European City Break

Planning a city break in the bear future? Europe has plenty of such opportunities. While Paris will make a great discovery for all romantic spirits, and London will certainly seduce theatre lovers, there are many other European destinations to enjoy:

Tallinn

A charming city and home to the best preserved medieval fortress in Europe, Tallinn is an increasingly popular destination for a city break. Tourists are flooding from all over the world to enjoy the romantic atmosphere, to taste delicious food and explore historic landmarks. Don’t miss Toompea Castle with its eclectic architecture or Kadriorg Palace with its impressive Baroque fa§ade. For a nice afternoon spent outdoors, head to Rocca al Mare. If you want to visit two European capital cities in one trip, take a boat ride to Helsinki.

Barcelona

A bustling urban center, Barcelona is one of the trendiest European destinations because of its rich historical and artistic heritage, its proximity to the beach, its relaxed lifestyle and vivid nightlife. Start your visit with a walk on Las Ramblas, before getting lost in the streets of the Barri Gotic with its narrow cobbled streets. Take a tour of La Boqueria market for an incredible sensorial experience, then do some window shopping along Passeig de Gracia Barcelona’s fashionable street. In the historic district of La Ribera you will find Picasso Museum. You should, of course, not forget about Gaudi’s buildings the still unfinished Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Casa Balto. If you are visiting Barcelona during the summer, you can get some sun tan on Barceloneta or other Barcelona beaches.

Rome

Rome was not built in a day, and cannot be visited in one day either. With so many authentic piazzas around you, open-air markets, fascinating historical sites, fine dining restaurants and other world class attractions, the Italian capital city is a giant outdoor museum. Toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, admire the Colosseum and the Pantheon, then have an espresso to refill your energy for a shopping afternoon at Campo de ‘Fiori or Via Veneto. To conclude your day in Roman style, treat yourself to a delicious plate of pasta cooked in original Italian style.

Lisbon

A city that celebrates the country’s rich maritime history, Lisbon will be delight for your entire family. The Maritime Museum will delight kids and adults equally, while neighborhoods like Alfama and Belem will make the delight of romantic spirits. If you are in Lisbon for several days, a trip to Sintra to visit its majestic castles is worthwhile. If you want to get to know the true essence of the Portuguese spirit, spend at least one evening in a casa de fado.
