Centrally located on the CSULB campus, near the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center and the Pyramid Events Center, the UAM occupies a ground-level facility with ample parkm ?. In addition to the 10,000 square-foot indoor space, the new museum extends outdoors, with attractive sites for sculpture and installations. The UAM presents diverse and imaginative exhibitions devoted to the work of contemporary artists. It offers artists a place to experiment, innovate, and present new work. In addition to featuring the finest in contemporary art, the UAM introduces the accomplishments of the design community to West Coast audiences. The Museum’s collections of site-specific outdoor sculpture and works of art on paper feature examples of the work of important contemporary masters. Presented as major exhibitions, offered for examination by students and scholars, and circulated to national institutions, the UAM collections are a permanent, regional visual arts resource and archive of contemporary culture.

Located on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Museum is housed in an Arts and Crafts-style former residence. On the grounds are gardens, an indoor/outdoor cafe, and gift shop. The Museums permanent collection features over 5,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, decorative arts pieces, and videos. The changing exhibition program highlights the collections strengths – California Modernism, 20th-century European painting, contemporary ceramics, media arts, and 300 years of American decorative art.
