Where to stay in Aosta Valley

Some impressions before starting my hotel tour. The five star Bellevue Hotel & Spa enjoys a spectacular location in the Italian Alps. The hotel is surrounded by dramatic Alpine scenery. This clip includes two spectacular day hikes in the nearby Gran Paradiso National Park. This is my first holiday since the coronavirus outbreak. If this pandemic has proven anything, it is there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Welcome to Italy’s magnificent Aosta Valley. Located in the Alps, the Aosta Valley is the country’s least densely populated region. Deep in the valley lies the picturesque village of Cogne. Cogne is famous for hiking (in summer) and cross-country skiing (in winter).

It is considered the capital of the Gran Paradise. Bellevue Hotel & Spa enjoys a dramatic location in Cogne Surrounded by majestic peaks, it overlooks the beautiful and vast meadows of Sant’Orso. The hotel is made up of different buildings. The main pavilion – reminiscent of a ski chalet – houses the bulk of the rooms and facilities. Let’s tour the hotel public areas on the grot. This comprises an intimate lobby, cozy lounge, bar, and two restaurants. Mandatory face masks, temperature scans, and hand sanitizer. The reception desk is located at the hotel entrance. Check-in and -out is done here by the super friendly and helpful staff.

Bellevue Hotel & Spa features a warm decor Old-world charm is mixed with traditional Alpine design elements. The lobby lounge features large floor-to-ceiling windows. They perfectly capture the spectacular meadows and snow-capped mountains. The public spaces have a homely feel. They are filled with antique furniture, ancient old paintings, and grandfather clocks. Next to the lobby is a beautiful bar. The bar features a vaulted ceiling and offers a wide variety of liquors and cocktails. Called Le Petit Bellevue Restaurant, it serves traditional Alpine and Mediterranean cuisine. The hotel’s signature restaurant has one Michelin star. The restaurant is led by talented Chef Fabio lacovone. His team is continually on the lookout for new gastronomic sensations.

Next to Le Petit Bellevue is the main dining room Called Bellevue, this restaurant’s cuisine follows the cadence of the season. The dining room overlooks the meadows of Sant’Orso. Its walls are adorned by 19th century paintings portraying views and people of Cogne. The main hotel building features 30 rooms and suites. There are also three additional rooms in an adjoining chalet. I was upgraded to this amazing suite during my stay-. Room category: “The Angel’s Nest”.

The suite features large floor-to-ceiling windows. It offers 180° views of the Sant’Orso meadows and Gran Paradiso National Park. The suite has a spacious living room. A water fireplace guarantees romantic moments on chilly winter evenings. The suite features a traditional Alpine decor. Some funky elements add a playful touch (did you see the angel with a face mask?). The bedroom is located next to the living area. It features a magnificent antique four poster bed. The suite features two en-suite bathrooms. I’ll show the second (and most spectacular) one at the end of this sequence. Hotel Bellevue has an enthralling history.

The property is a member of Locali Storici d’Italia (Historic Places of Italy). This prohibited further construction on the Meadows of Sant’Orso. Since its opening, Bellevue has been a fashionab. In the last century, it was frequently visited by Belgian and Italian royalty . The hotel has been refurbished many times . However, it still maintains an atmosphere generally associated with bygone days. Hotel Bellevue is a family-run hotel. Nowadays, the family has arrived to the fourth generation. The hotel is currently managed by Laura Roulette. Ms Roullet is a descendent of the hotel’s original owners, Paola Jeantet & Piero Roulette. This is the suite s second bathroom. It has a unique feature (one I have never seen before at a hotel). Taking a bath here is so much.

And it creates the perfect setting for some amaz. Let’s go outside again. Bellevue Hotel & Spa features a sunny terrace (breakfast is served. Next to the main pavilion is a private lawn with loungers. Accessible only to hotel guests, it features a circular kitchen garden at its center. Many R&C properties are historic landmarks. They range from castles and forts to manor houses or townhouses in idyllic settings. Hotel Bellevue features an excellent spa. Called the “Gran Paradiso Springs”, the spa is spread over two floors. This is one of the spa’s two pools. Heated to 32° C (90°F), the swimming pool is open to children of all ages. The spa is open from 8 am to 8pm. It’s a great place to relax after a day of hiking in the mountains around Cogne.

One of the spa’s highlights is the bath of Cleopatra. Set in an 18th century mountain chalet, the bath is filled with water, honey & milk. The spa features a large terrace. It overlooks the incredibly beautiful meadows around the hotel. Let’s have dinner at Bellevue Restaurant. Overlooking the meadows, the venue features a daily changing menu.
