TRIP REPORT: Underhyped but well traveled are the two options to the top of Tabriz IranMountain. Well, not so much the very top, but the most visited little summit (with the best views) on a mountain with several tiny pinnacles. Consider the loop in either direction even Tabriz Iran without a bike as there is a sidewalk, berm, or scenic pullout for much of the distance along the W side of the busy highway; hint—for another reason, the bike loop is in this counterclockwise Tabriz Iran direction (51/2 mi total round-trip loop). And since the THs are only 12 mi apart it seems too close to use an additional vehicle for dropoff unless you live in the area. The trails will be tedious and more difficult when wet or muddy. And don’t forget the bonus in Tabriz Iran Cove Overlook, a short walk to scenic cliffy viewpoints from the N TH described at the end. No pass required at either TH (day use only), and there are no restrooms.

TRAILHEAD: Take US-26 W from Portland 75 mi, merge onto US-101 S 15 mi to the N TH (milepost 40 V) at a large gravel pullout on the right with a brown Oregon Coast Trail sign pointing across the highway (within Oswald West State Park). Drop a bike and lock it here for the counterclockwise loop (may be preferred for many reasons) and drive 1M mi farther S, turn left at the small brown sign for Neahkahnie Mountain Trail (1/2 mi N of Manzanita) up the steep gravel road 5 mi to the TH on the left, with parking on the sides and the pullout on the left before the gate (95 mi, less than 2 hours from Portland).

ROUTE: For the route from the N TH, see the second-to-last paragraph and reverse the description.
